We Are Family Friendly!

posted Aug 17, 2017, 12:24 PM by Karen Dockery

MCES is one of only five schools to be named a Georgia Family-Friendly Partnership School for the year 2017 by the Georgia Department of Education! Being designated as a "Family-Friendly school" indicates that a school has "exceptional customer service for families." Georgia Superintendent Richard Woods said that "...schools build partnerships when parents and families feel welcome in their child's school - welcome to visit, to engage, and to be a part of the learning process."

Author & Illustrator visits MCES

posted Jan 10, 2017, 7:35 AM by Karen Dockery

On December 1st, illustrator Michael P. White visited MCES! Mr. White shared information about the formation/publishing of books and how an author and illustrator work together to bring a story to life. Not only did the students get to watch Mr. White draw and demonstrate the airbrush technique he uses, but they also got to draw along with him! Hopefully, students were able to take some of the character ideas they created back to the classroom and write stories to go along with their cute characters! Students were also able to purchase one of the books he illustrated, The Library Dragon, and get it autographed. The author of this book, Carmen Agra Deedy will also be visiting our school later this year!

Earlier this year on September 26th, author Emily Gaddy visited our school and talked about the process of writing and publishing her book, Go Bulldogs! Mrs. Gaddy is a graduate of White County High School and The University of Georgia. Students also had the opportunity to purchase a book and get it autographed by the author.

We are looking forward to another White County graduate, Jennifer Aiken Dickson, visiting us on January 19th to share the book she has written, Lucie Brandon and the Mystery of the Patchwork Dreams.
